Reflection for Sunday, Dec. 26
In today’s gospel, we are given the opportunity to reflect on the word ‘family’ and its strength. Today we hear about when Mary and Joseph accidentally left the temple without Jesus. Mary thought that Jesus was with Joseph while Joseph thought that Jesus was with Mary. But Mary and Joseph realized Jesus was not with them, and they went back and brought him home with them.
This story reminds us that our family will always come back to us, no matter what. At some point in our lives, we have had the fear of losing someone in our family. On a personal level, two of my great-aunts had not spoken for years. Recently, a great loss came upon our family. The two thanked each other for all they had done, and they reconnected. We were overjoyed at the fact that they are at a better place in their relationship. Who knows where this will go from here, but I know one thing. Family is for life.
