Reflection for Saturday, Dec. 25

“A light will shine on us this day: The Lord is born for us.”

The celebration today is old and always new. The story of the birth of Jesus always captures us. The feast brings us joy and peace. We can feel it in the air no matter where we walk. Families gather, folks travel, and we pray together in gratitude for the great gift of Jesus in our midst.

The Responsorial Psalm for the Mass at Dawn speaks of Light. The Light is Christ for sure, but it is also about you and me as we live our lives in our world. We are again called on Christmas Day to be Light for one another.

The ways we speak, the gifts we give, and the hope we long for all speak of the power that rests in you and me as we care for one another. Christmas, again this year, is about the Presence of God in our world, in your life, and mine right now.

I wish you a Merry Christmas. May Christ’s Light shine through us.
