Reflection for Saturday, Dec. 5
The LORD Heals the Brokenhearted
Who among us has not experienced heartbreak? Loss comes in many forms - from your favorite team losing the game, or your candidate not winning the election, to the ending of a romantic relationship, losing a job, the death of a loved one, or the ending of a marriage or a ministry. What can we glean from today’s Psalm to make sense of the pain of loss?
As a nation, the Israelites experienced the painful destruction of Jerusalem and exile. Yet God showed concern for the welfare of His people. The LORD released the Israelites from captivity and helped them rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. On a more personal level, he “binds up their wounds” showing gentle care to whoever feels pain. The LORD is not only the God of Israel but also the universal Creator numbering and caring for the stars. The LORD is both strong and smart.
Similarly, as we recover from the pain of loss, God helps to rebuild our lives. My prayer for us today is to receive healing from our creator God who loves and cares for each one of us. Sing praise to the LORD who heals the brokenhearted.
