Reflection for Sunday, Jan. 2
Magi bring gold, frankincense, and myrrh across a desert to a foreign land to give honor to a newborn king. These Wise Men spent their lives looking to the heavens for signs and when they actually see one, they have the courage to act.
As they follow their sign, the light doesn't lead them to a lofty castle where one might expect a king to be born, but rather to a village outside of Jerusalem, and even then, to a manger with the poor family. These Wise Men are called wise not because they saw a star, but because they knew how to look past what human eyes see and instead accept what God's signs point to.
