Reflection for Friday, Dec. 3

Jesus, the healer, cures two blind men in today’s gospel. A miracle points to the power of God, and it also offers a glimpse of who God is. God is a healer. And so many times in our own lives, we desire that same healing miracle that Jesus performs for the two blind men. We might be physically ill or struggling emotionally, and we just wish that our faith and prayers would lead to a quick recovery, to a miraculous healing. But, oftentimes, we must wait for recovery, for healing, and we can become impatient. We can feel that God is not answering our prayers. We might even feel abandoned by God sometimes because we continue to hurt and to suffer. However, the faith and belief of the two blind men urge us to continue to turn to God, in the spirit of trust. We grow in trust that God will hear our prayers, offer healing in some form, and continue to walk with us on our journey of faith.

The two blind men experienced a miracle; we are impatiently waiting for ours to arrive. We might not experience a miracle in our lives, but we are comforted that God hears our prayers and is with us always. God will provide us with healing care and a loving embrace, as we continue to trust in God.
