Reflection for Monday, Nov. 29

O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the LORD! (Isaiah 2:5)

This passage from the first reading for today’s Mass gives us a good motto to follow from the start of Advent through to the feast of the Epiphany: Let us walk in the light of the Lord! In John’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims: “I am the light of the world! Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12). Just as Jesus came to bring light to our world that first Christmas, we who follow him have been called to share that same light with all those whom we encounter. In this cold and wintery time of year, when darkness seems to take over our world, let us follow Isaiah’s call: “(O people of God), come, let us walk in the light of the Lord!”
