Reflection for Monday, Nov. 30

Today is the feast of St. Andrew. Andrew was the brother of Simon Peter and both of them were fishermen. They were working when Jesus called them and said He would teach them how to be “fishers of men.”  Today’s gospel speaks to Jesus gathering His disciples. Each of the “called” dropped their nets and followed him.

I am struck by their faith and their willingness to put that faith into action by following Jesus. Could each of us drop everything, leave our family, our jobs, our home and all that we know to follow the unknown.  Is our faith so strong that we could do what Andrew and the other disciples did? Perhaps we are called to follow the examples set not only by Jesus but the disciples too. What are the things we need to leave behind to follow Jesus? Do we each have the perseverance, the courage, the time, and the faith to heed Jesus’s call?
