In Memory of Mary Duffy
Mary Kathleen Duffy, age 90, devoted wife and loving mother, passed into eternal life surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
She was born on October 10, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Norton and Mary (Gordon) Ingraham.
Mary grew up in Brooklyn, NY where she graduated from St. Agnes School in 1951. She also studied Library Sciences at Norwalk Community College.
On January 22, 1955, Mary and Joseph Patrick Duffy Jr. began their nearly 69 years of marriage. They lived in Brooklyn, NY then Norwalk, CT for 48 years before relocating to Danbury, CT in 2012.
After raising their 9 children and being a library volunteer, den mother, and church volunteer, she worked as a librarian at the Ferguson Library in Stamford, CT for 18 years until her retirement.
Since she was 4 years old, Mary enjoyed spending summers on Lake Bomoseen, VT. She was also an avid reader along with her close friends, the Juliettes. Mary always enjoyed listening and singing to music which brought her much joy.
Mary was a member of the St. Joseph Church in Norwalk, CT where she attended daily mass for many years and was a very active parishioner serving as a lector and CCD/RCIA instructor. She was also a member of the Associates of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Along with her husband, she is survived by her eight children. Marie Kreiser (Craig) of Bomoseen, VT, Joseph P. Duffy, III (Margaret) of East Poultney, VT, Timothy M. Duffy (Carol) of Milford, CT, Christopher P. Duffy (Cathy) of Poultney, VT, Terrence P. Duffy (Barbara) of Danbury, CT, Sheila T. Holmes (John) of Middlebury, CT, Jeanne D. Grenier (Marc) of Danbury, CT and Catherine B. Quinn (Sean) of Danbury, CT, as well as 25 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by a daughter, Bernadette Ann Duffy in 1970, a granddaughter, Allison Marie Duffy in 1992, and a sister, Eileen Rickershauser in 2012.
