Reflection for December 25
My friends, today we need Christmas more than ever, for we live in a divided world. We need Light and Goodness and Blessings that only God can give through us.
“I proclaim to you good news of great joy. Today a Savior is born for us, Christ the Lord” (Lk 2:10-11).
“A people in darkness have seen a great light” (Isaiah 9). The Feast today is Old and New, for we truly recall the early days in Bethlehem, as well as the present day that we live. We recognize too the Christ that lives within us…the way we speak and care for one another. The ways we are attentive to the best in us is important today. We travel far and wide to wish one another a Merry Christmas...that to recognize again the goodness of God.
I have learned well over the years that no one has it easy. We are, in fact, in a different place than we were a year ago, for better or for worse. I admire those among us who even on this day recognize the limitations we have, perhaps because of age or sickness. We try to live in the Light that was present then and as much now.
Christmas is about your family and mine. We look forward to being together and hopefully sharing the best we have. We are truly the Light for one another.
Our worlds today seem to be torn by discord of all kinds. The detail of the daily news often puts this before us. We wonder and worry and ask ourselves what we can do to make a difference. Please do not misunderstand the power you have because of the Feast of Christmas. The Word of God nourishes us, we can bring light to the people we visit today, for we know how important joy is. If there is no joy in your life, you may have no life!
A Child is given to us, Jesus is born again. We recognize this and can make His presence felt around our tables we share today.
We wish you a Merry Christmas...that is with love, and peace and joy.
