Reflection for December 20

Gospel - Luke 1:26-38

I chose this gospel reading for my response because it is one that I found myself reflecting upon long after reading it. I believe there is something important being said in this reading worth exploring further. The gospel tells us of the angel Gabriel coming to Mary with the news of how she was to bear the son of God.

I think what is really interesting here, is how Mary’s first reaction to the angel’s message is actually a bit of worry and question, before the angel Gabriel reassures her with his message.

“For nothing will be impossible for God.” (Lk 1:37) The angel’s message encourages Mary, and her worry is gone. I think that message is really important. The gospel reminds us of the importance of trusting God and his plans over everything else. This is something I find myself thinking about a lot in my life. With the uncertainty of the world that we live in, and all the confusion that surrounds it, it can be hard to not lose sight of the important things in our lives.

I think that the gospel is a much-needed reminder that through the midst of everything else, as long as we keep coming back to the message in this gospel and putting our trust in God, anything is possible.
