Reflection for January 3

Gospel - John 1:29-34

We were struck by the beauty of this gospel in the humbleness of John the Baptist when he said, “After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me because he was before me.”

This gospel was written to give us hope. We know this because there are three words that stand out: lamb, dove, and baptize. John refers to Jesus as the Lamb of God who will take away our sins. This truly gives us hope for eternal life with Jesus. The Holy Spirit is referred to as a dove and is proof that Jesus was sent to save mankind. And lastly, John the Baptist baptized Jesus even though he knew Jesus was our savior.

Right now, we all need to be reminded to keep hope in our hearts and minds, especially now when the state of our world can feel so uncertain.
