Reflection for December 27
Our childhood image of God probably looks like Zeus from the Disney movie Hercules; he sits up on high, far, far away from his people with his lightning bolts at the ready to smite us when we mess up!
Fortunately, Christ came to restore creation to the purity of its origins. Saint Pope John Paul II tells us in the Theology of the Body that God's original plan of redemption included the Incarnation of the Word made flesh. When we see βthe Word,β scripture is referring to the Logos which means "ultimate meaning." So, ultimate meaning took on flesh to redeem all of us in the flesh. In Jesus, the invisible God is made visible. Jesus fully reveals what it means to be human. This is what Saint John means when he speaks of the "Word of life."
