Reflection for December 25

Responsorial Psalm - Psalm 98: 1-6

The Nativity of the Lord

“All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.” Ps. 98:1-6

What a joy to be able to reflect on this beautiful Psalm on this Christmas Day. Christmas is always old and always new. This Feast always has great power.

First, we again remember the Gift of God sending His Son into our world. We learn from Jesus, Mary and Joseph on this day. They speak of family and how we need to be attentive to one another. The power of love flows from each of them. This power is both old and new and always necessary.

Often you and I search for the Christmas card that is just right for our friends with whom we wish to connect at the special time. This has meaning for us. We are in need of this kind of “Christmas” dialogue.

“All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.”

Let’s make this very personal. Do we know the power of our meal together on Christmas Day? Just the table alone speaks of peace and joy. This table has power to heal and love and celebrate the Birth of Jesus in our homes.

We need this Christmas today more than ever. I want to give it as much attention as possible and encourage you to do the same. This is not just another Christmas, it is THIS Christmas with the Power of God to lift us up in our present world.

Let us do this together with as much joy as possible.

Merry Christmas, Fr. Terry Kristofak, C.P.
