Reflection for December 20
The gospel reading Luke 1:26-38 is one with a valuable lesson for us about trust. Mary’s first reaction to the news that the angel Gabriel brings is that she is troubled. She asks the angel, “How can this be?” His response is my favorite part of this gospel reading, as he tells her, “For nothing will be impossible for God.”
I think that statement is something we should all remind ourselves of. If there is one thing that working with animals has taught me, it is that life can be messy and chaotic and that for every plan we make, something unexpected may throw us off.
But trust in God is the most important key in all of life’s trials, and to remember that “Nothing is impossible for God,” as Mary is reminded of after the Angel Gabriel’s visit.
