Reflection for Wednesday, Dec. 16
“Go and tell John what you have seen and heard:
the blind regain their sight,
the lame walk,
lepers are cleansed,
the deaf hear, the dead are raised,
the poor have the good news proclaimed to them.” -Luke 7:22
In today’s gospel, John the Baptist sends two of his disciples to ask Jesus if he truly is the Messiah. Jesus answers the disciples by stating all of the miraculous deeds he has performed over the past weeks and months. A miracle is a sign that points to the power of God. Only God is capable of performing miracles. Jesus is saying, “Of course, I am the Messiah!”
During these dark days of winter, we all long for the light of Christ to enter into our hearts and lives. We are anxiously awaiting his arrival in 9 days. Jesus arrives in the world as a small infant. But, he grows up to be a generous and compassionate man. He heals the sick and preaches the good news to the poor.
We long to walk in his footsteps and bring light and love to others in our dark world. We want to be more generous and compassionate, like Jesus. Advent is still upon us. We continue to prepare our hearts and minds to be changed by Christ’s coming into the world. We will be changed, and we will allow the light of Christ to shine through us for the world to see.
