Reflection for Friday, Dec. 25

Christmas Day, so special for us. This Christmas is different for us, yet each Christmas is different because we live in such a world of change. All that being said, we are our best selves today, and we are in such need of the great gift that you alone can give. I wonder what the gift is that you bring to this Christmas Day?

I choose to comment on the responsorial Psalm prayed at the Mass celebrated on Christmas morning. “All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.”

The saving power of God is about Peace and Light and Goodness. All this is seen in the birth of Jesus whom we welcome and celebrate today. Christmas is old, but always new. Today we are in need of your supportive care and encouragement.

Again, “All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.” How do we make this real in our homes today and especially with those we love?

I am thinking of the importance of our family meal together. This meal is so important for us...a time of support and care and positive sharing with people whom we love.

The Psalm goes on, “Sing joyfully to the Lord, all you lands; break into song and sing praise.”

I know in my life as a priest and friend, I have tried to praise others for the good I most often experience with them. There is so much negativity around us, appropriate words reflecting the “Saving Power of God” are always welcomed. Our world, our families are in need.

For today, Christmas Day, “A child is born to us, and a Son is given to us. His name is Jesus, and He is the Savior of the World.” In great gratitude, Merry Christmas as we celebrate the gift that you are.
